Here Is A Few Notes About The Vocabulary Used On My Site.

  • LT Or Limited Trade: 2:1 Trade Ratio

  • VLT Or Very Limited Trade: 3:1 Trade Ratio

  • ELT Or Extremely Limited Trade: 4:1 Trade Ratio

  • U/s Or Understudy: An Understudy Is A Performer Who Learns The Role Of Their Ensemble Part, But Also Of A Principal Performer. Should The Principal Be Unable To Perform Due To Illness, Injury, Emergency Etc., The Understudy Will Take Over The Part. Usually, When The U/s Takes Over, There Will Be An Announcement Prior To The Start Of The Performance.

  • S/b Or Standby: Standby Performers Are Only Committed To Covering A Part, And Do Not Otherwise Appear In The Show (Unlike Understudies Who Would Usually Come From The Ensemble). Standbys Are Usually Required To Sign In And Remain At The Theatre As Other Cast Members. If There Is No Doubt That The Performers On Stage Can Complete Their Performance, A Standby May Be Released From The Theatre At The Intermission.

  • Alt Or Alternate: Alternates, Like Standbys, Do Not Have A Regular Character, But Are Scheduled To Go On For A Physically, Or Vocally Challenging Role For A Certain Number Of Performances A Week. This Allows The Principal Role To Be Shared Among Performers.

  • S/w Or Swing: In Musical Theatre, The Term Swing Is Used For A Member Of The Company Who Understudies Several Chorus And/or Dancing Roles. If An Understudy Fills In For A Lead Role, A Swing Acts The Parts Normally Performed By The Understudy.

  • T/r Or Temporary Replacement: A Performer Who Is Scheduled To Take Over A Principal Role For A Set Temporary Duration, For Example If The Principal Is Unable To Perform For 6 Months Due To Prior Commitments Or Emergencies, A T/r Will Be Assigned.

  • E/c Or Emergency Cover: A Performer Who Is Unscheduled, And Does Not Usually Perform In This Role Or Time Or Date Or Tour, But Takes Over A Role Last Minute In An Emergency, Usually Without Rehearsal Time.

  • G/p Or Guest Performer: This Isn't Often Used, But When A Special Guest Is Invited To Perform For A Limited Run/specific Performance This Would Be A Guest Performer
